Ponale road

Strada del Ponale

The Ponale walk has very ancient origins, in fact the road was carved into the rock as early as the mid-nineteenth century and was then interrupted about 20 years ago.
Only Since 2004 the old road has become a cycle-pedestrian path , one of the most beautiful paths in Europe.
The Ponale promenade can be done a pied i or in < strong> bike or mountain bike and is suitable for everyone.
The only precaution is to pay the utmost attention to cyclists who sometimes whiz at high speed creating some discomfort for pedestrians . The path is quite long but there are no great difficulties except in the last stretch towards Lake Ledro where the path crosses an uphill wood.
It is a walk to do because it offers unique views with the rock on one side and the lake on the other.
In some places you can also see the old shelters built by the military during the war, giving strong emotions.
It is better to choose a season that is not too hot for a walk along the Ponale path , and in any case take some water with you.

You can do the entire round trip, just over 20 km in total , or choose the circular route, shorter but always beautiful.
To avoid the entire Ponale tour, once you arrive at the crossroads after the bar you have to go down from the side of the tunnel for a short distance along the state road and then return to the crossroads towards Pregasina and back.
The Ponale di Riva del Garda walk is, for about 2 km, slightly uphill until the right turn for the Valle di Ledro .

At this point the road divides, separating the pedestrian path from the one for bicycles.
You cross a bridge and then continue crossing the signpost that leads to a forest road.
Having reached the Valle di Ledro, after passing the Pregasina road, you walk along a series of hairpin bends to reach the statue of the Madonna with its panoramic terrace. At this point, bars or restaurants meet in the village for a regenerating break.
Bike path and footpath come together to lead to the center of the village Prè di Ledro .

The walk continues towards Molina then reaches Lake Ledro with its Palafitte Museum < / strong>. The Ponale path is a recommended walk for everyone and absolutely not to be missed!
